Qaanaaq freshwater supply
During the long Arctic winter, the village of Qaanaaq doesn't have access to naturally occurring fresh (as in not salty) water, everything is frozen solid. They are dependent on melting ice from icebergs that ground themselves in the bay.
Although they have always done that, washing machines and running water in general, has dramatically increased demand. They have therefore completely industrialised the process (and yes it's totally reliant on fossil energies).
